"Only with a burning patience can we conquer the splendid City which will give light, justice, and dignity to all mankind"- Rimbaud

2008 WORLD CITIZEN AWARD

On March 14, in Leipzig Germany, Major Florian Pfaff will receive the 2008 World Citizen Award from the Association of World Citizens (AWC). The award is in recognition of the moral decision by Major Pfaff in 2003 to refuse orders to participate in the U.S.-led attack on Iraq. Major Pfaff followed his conscience, believing the war was an act of aggression and violation of international law. In 2005, the Federal Administrative Court of Germany ruled that Major Pfaff was “righteous” in his decision and not guilty of any illegal behavior. This case is a major story in Germany and Europe.

The award will be presented on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 10 a.m. during the Leipzig Book Fair at the Congress Center Leipzig (CCL), Messeallee 1, 04356 Leipzig, Germany.

Other individuals receiving the AWC World Citizen Award include Dr. Robert Muller, former United Nations Assistant-Secretary-General, The Reverend Jesse Jackson, Stanislav Petrov (resulting in a documentary movie entitled, The Man Who Saved the World, that will be released around September of 2008).
